Shared hosting plans are perfect for most websites that have limited requirenments. Even though your needs may be limited, we know for sure that you want to get the best for your plan.
For this reason, we made sure to allow all our shared hosting plans the flexibility of multiple databases per shared-server.
Whether you have a single or multi domain shared linux hosting plan, you can have up to 25 MySQL databases.
At first glance it may seem like a lot to some, and not enough for others. From our experience, it is a rare case where you'll be needing more databases than these.
Why is there a limit of 25 MySQL Databases per Hosting Plan?
The main reason is "Performance". We want to make sure that all servers and domains hosted within that account work at their best. We can raise the limit, but you'd have reduced server response time.
What if I actually need more than 25 MySQL databases?
When your needs exceed the limits of the shared server, you are presented with a few options:
- Open a second shared hosting account with us to expand your online reach
- Upon request, we offer an in-between option of Reseller Hosting with a limit of 50 DB Accounts plus a few added benefits.
- Get a VPS Cloud server which provides you with added flexibility.
- Get a Dedicated Server which gives the full control to you.
Is there a size limit per database?
For shared hosting plans that have a limit on hard drive space, your biggest limitation is the available space on your account.
For shared hosting plans that have no limit on hard drive space, you have less restrictions, but should still keep the size controlled for best performance.
There is, however, a cap limit of 2.5GB on all shared hosting plans with at least 5GB of storage. For Reseller servers, the capacity limit is 5GB for all stored databases.
What is a normal size on a database file?
Depending on your needs and database configuration, some databases are relatively small in just a few megabytes. Where as databases linked to CMS engines such as magazines and mid-size e-commerce sites, a database around 300Mb is pretty normal. You should still optimize and backup your database to ensure everything runs smoothly.
Is there anything else I should know about Database Limits?
Generally speaking, it is very rare to reach or exceed the limits we've set. However, in the rare event that you do, and encounter some issue not listed here, throw us a line and we'll update our knowledgebase thanks to your added input.
